Cheetah Animal

All sorts of Cheetah Animal Information can be found both in libraries and online. Cheetahs are unique cats, and they are very different from other felidae. Not infrequently, Cheetahs are confused with leopards because of their spotted coats. However, there are a few evident differences between these two felines. First, Cheetahs have round or oval black spots, while the leopard’s spots are rosette-shaped. Second, Cheetahs have distinctive black “tear marks” running at both sides of the nose from the inner corners of the eyes and down to the mouth. Leopards do not have “tear marks”.

The Cheetah’s body shape is different from the Leopard’s too. Although they are similar in size, Cheetahs have leaner, springier and more flexible bodies and smaller heads. Cheetahs have semi-retractile claws, while Leopards, like most other felids, have retractile claws. Cheetahs cannot climb trees. Cheetahs kill prey by tripping it up and grabbing it by the throat on the underside, while other large cats jump up on the victim’s back and bite on the upper neck, ten pin it to the ground and gradually move their jaws the throat until the prey suffocates. There are lots of descriptions of various fascinating Cheetah Animal facts available online for those interested in wild felines and this particular species. The Cheetah is but the only wild felid that can be tamed. Ancient Egyptians kept Cheetahs as pets, and even used them as hunting companions.

The Cheetah’s social behavior is in many ways untypical of felines too. While female Cheetahs are solitary, males, especially brothers, live in groups. Cheetah Animal They defend their territories together and cooperate in hunting. Cheetahs do not usually attack animals weighing more than 90 lbs, but several males can cope with an adult zebra. The Cheetah’s diet depends on the amount of prey available and the local fauna. The Thomson’s Gazelle is their most preferred game, as it s concentrated in East Africa, where the majority of Cheetah population is found.

Compared to other felines, Cheetahs have a unique set of vocal characteristics. They cannot roar, like most other felids. These cats can produce bird-like chirping sounds. Most commonly, Cheetahs use this noise when locating each other. Mothers call their young this way too. Cheetahs can growl and yowl when facing a danger or feeling irritated. During social meetings, Cheetahs often use churring and purring sounds. The purring is reminiscent of the purring of a domestic cat. Cheetah Animal websites contain more detailed descriptions and audio files of Cheetah voices, so you can browse, read and download files and listen to their natural calls.
